Our Story

Palmer “Jack” Hargrave, a hardworking family man, talented designer and tradesman, made a name for himself with his lighting designs even prior to starting his own lighting firm. Jack was responsible for the lighting fixtures in Los Angeles’ Union Station. Opened in 1939, the station is on the National Register of Historic Places and one of its truly iconic features is the lighting. In 1946, Jack founded Palmer Hargrave. In the early days, you could find Palmer Hargrave lighting in Gump’s in San Francisco prior to its exclusive representation in every top design showroom in the Nation. He built a legacy of handcrafted, luxury lighting synonymous with elegance and beauty for nearly three decades until his death in 1975.
Determined to continue what her father had built, Janet Hargrave operated the Company until she retired at the age of 78. At which time the Dessin Fournir Companies acquired the brand and operated from 2000 – 2019 until the luxury design manufacturer ceased all its operations.
Just a few months later, former employees Chris and Kelli Hansen successfully acquired the storied lighting company and restarted operations with the high standards of quality and design set by the company’s original founder.
